Four cities. Two lakes. Tons of music history.
The cleanup in The Shoals, Alabama is the second installment of four cleanups in our the Tennessee River Grand Slam Cleanup, our effort in Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup, which engages more than 1.5 million volunteers each spring.
This particularly unique cleanup at The Shoals, AL will impact four cities that meet at the Tennessee River in Alabama—including Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia—(a.k.a. “The Shoals”). Volunteers can clean the shoreline from Riverfront Park, located in Sheffield and in front of the notable Cypress Moon Studios. Now a concert venue, recording and film production studio, it was once the location of the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio where legends such as Bob Dylan, The Commodores, Bob Seger, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Melissa Ethridge, Jimmy Buffet, and other artists recorded. Living Lands & Waters will transport volunteers via boat from the park to other shorelines along The Shoals.
Alternatively, volunteers can hop in a shuttle to be taken to Living Lands & Waters boats working at a higher elevation just down the road on Wilson Lake. After the cleanup, volunteers will be brought back to Riverfront Park where they will receive a free lunch.
This is an activity that combines nature and music history, all while promoting a cleaner river for all. You don't want to miss it!
