Dive for the Eagles

Saturday, sept. 7
Douglas Lake state park

In an effort to raise awareness around tires and how they can leak metals like lead when dumped into the water, KTNRB is hosting an event in partnership with the American Eagle Foundation and Keep Sevier Beautiful on the weekend following the Labor Day holiday.

This will be a two-part cleanup: 1) scuba divers be pulling items from the river bottom; 2) volunteers will be cleaning the shoreline.

Lead poisoning can affect fish that bald eagles consume, thus poisoning America’s iconic bird. While tires are not likely a primary source for such levels of lead, they can leak the metal when dumped into the water. More details to come on this exciting event soon!
