Tennessee River Grand Slam Cleanup
4 cleanups. 3 states. 1 river: 221 volunteers removed 13,515 lbs.
Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful hosted its first ever campaign event, hosting four cleanups in three states in a campaign to raise awareness for litter in the Tennessee River.
Living Lands & Waters, a national nonprofit that cleans North American rivers, partnered with KTNRB, providing five boats to transport volunteers to new shorelines during the cleanups.
Keep America Beautiful supported the campaign with a $10,000 Community Restoration grant. The program supports cleanups that follow natural disasters, in this case it was following the Tennessee River’s record floods in February 2019. Helen Lowman, KAB President & CEO, attended the cleanups on Pickwick Lake and in The Shoals, AL to do a check presentation and take part in the cleanups to officially kick off the nationwide 2019 Great American Cleanup.
